Gastronomy and typical products

The gastronomy of the Nebrodi Mountains celebrates the land and local traditions with a variety of typical products. Among the leading products are cheeses such as Pecorino and Provola dei Nebrodi, made with milk from local farms, and the Nebrodi Black Pork, a native breed offering high-quality meat for fine cured meats.

Hazelnuts, prized for their unique flavour, are used in traditional desserts together with honey produced by local beekeepers. Porcini mushrooms and truffles harvested in the Nebrodi forests enrich the local cuisine with intense and refined flavours.

Nature and biodiversity

The Nebrodi Mountains are a veritable sanctuary of biodiversity, with extraordinarily rich and varied flora and fauna. The Nebrodi forests are among the largest and most luxuriant in Sicily, home to tree species such as beech, oak, holm oak and cork oak, creating an ideal habitat for numerous animal and plant species.

The fauna includes mammals such as wild boar, foxes and wild cats. The skies are populated by birds of prey including golden eagles, peregrine falcons and eagle owls, as well as numerous migratory birds that use this area as a stopping point during their seasonal migrations.
